For this one-off event, Ashruff will be sharing his no frills approach to songwriting which requires minimal equipment along with his creative process behinds his catchy songs. Nurasyraf Sahri also known as Ashruff was the former founding member/Bass player/Co songwriter for the local band "Anna Judge April" and the lead vocalist/ songwriter for the local Pop Punk Rock band "Attention! The New Portsdown". A ball of energy on stage, Ashruff’s vocals will keep you energised throughout the night. He played bass in the band "Anna Judge April" for 10 years, performing festivals regularly before leaving Anna Judge April in 2016.
While Attention! The New Portsdown is on a hiatus, he sets his focus on playing solo acoustic sets under the name "Ashruff". Being heavily influenced by punk rock music, Ashruff looks up to bands such as No Use For A Name,Useless ID, New Found Glory, Bayside, Rise Against, Story of the Year, MXPX,Alkaline Trio and etc.
Ashruff also runs his own music podcast “The Portsdown Playlist” on soundcloud. He loves making new friends and listening to new bands. “The Portsdown Playlist” made new friends from Europe and also other parts of Asia.
His vision is for The Portsdown Playlist to be a platform for local singaporean bands to be heard overseas and also for overseas bands to be heard here in Singapore. Having no formal education experiences in mass communications or any media studies, he acquired his skills and confidence talking in front of the camera and microphone when he was previously working at a local music store where he learned from his work colleagues and was given the chance to create videos on their youtube page.
Earlier this year, Ashruff announced at a gig that his solo project will now be known as “Versus Admirals”.In just a couple of months, Versus Admirals (formerly known as Ashruff) has played Singapore Night Festival 2016,100 bands Festival 2016 and Singapore Heritage Festival 2017. They have been writing songs for the past few months and plans to record their debut EP by the end of this year.
Ashruff is an asthmatic, He swims weekly just to clear his 'breathing pipe' which makes him feel better after every swim. He does Audio Editing/ Production Assistant for a couple of years in the broadcast industry.
