However, unlike a rocker, the center portion of the design features a diamond abrasive that’s perfectly level with the two smooth outer edges. This allows you to cut only the high fret and bring it back into line with the rest of the fretboard. MusicNomad’s Fret Leveler file rests across three of your instrument’s frets, wearing a smooth stainless-steel finish on the outer ends and a diamond abrasive center. This setup allows you to file only the middle fret within the 3-fret span, bringing a high fret back down to the plane of the two outside frets — and, thus, the rest of the fretboard, provided you’re starting with a reasonably level surface! However, the distance required to span three frets can vary dramatically depending both on your respective instrument’s scale and your position on the fretboard itself.

Luckily, MusicNomad includes a comprehensive trio of Fret Leveler files within this kit, including a 1.25-inch file, a 2-inch file, and a 3-inch file.
