A Vintage Favorite with Streamlined Performance
First unveiled in the 1990s, G&L’s LB-100 built upon the successful history of the P-style bass guitar while adding subtle streamlined additions that culminated in an elegant design and undeniable tone machine. This version of the famed LB-100 stays true to the original design, including a vintage-style Alnico V pickup wound in-house at G&L and the G&L Saddle-Lock bridge that contributes to rich note definition and sustain. This master of the low-end also boasts an alder body, a maple neck, and a maple fingerboard, which are ready to take on punchy grooves and lend sublime tone to every recording studio pit stop. The star-studded cast of hardware on this bass also includes G&L’s Ultra-lite aluminum tuners for reduced neck dive and minimized weight overall. Take it from City Music, the LB-100 effortlessly merges vintage soul and modern performance.
The same LB-100 you’ve always known
When Leo Fender and George Fullerton designed the LB-100 in the 1990s, they streamlined the form factor to give P-style bass lovers enhanced performance capability and a more ergonomic design. Crafted from alder, this LB-100 provides both incredible warmth and note definition while keeping it lightweight for long gigs. It retains a classic P-style shape that traditional players love, maintaining comfortable contours from the alder body to the maple neck’s comfortable medium “C” profile. From head to toe, this bass won’t only feel like a high-quality instrument, but an extension of yourself. Adding to this, the LB-100 also sports 21 jumbo nickel silver frets and a maple fingerboard for smooth playability designed to complement the tonal capabilities of its alder body. Lastly, a bone nut transfers string vibrations through the neck to squeeze out every ounce of tone and keep tuning stable.
Alnico split pickup
For fans of the classic ’50s and ’60s sound, nothing tops the “precision” punch and growl of Leo Fender and George Fullerton’s first bass guitar. A key ingredient in this bass’s mix-gluing flavor is its Alnico-magnet split pickup. The LB-100 looks to the original recipe for its pickup construction, using Alnico polepieces and modern winding techniques to deliver a timeless tone with enough output to handle modern styles of rock and metal.
Saddle-Lock Bridge
The LB-100’s Saddle-Lock bridge reduces lateral movement of the saddle pieces by tightening an Allen screw on the side of the bridge. Additionally, the Saddle-Lock bridge has a solid protrusion on its backside that is sunk firmly into the instrument’s body wood. Together, these two features make it easier for string energy to travel into the body and translate into a rich, resonant, and sustaining sound.
